Music II

4/19/2026

Here's a collection of some of the music I've been listening to recently. All of these artists can be found on Bandcamp, and if you enjoy their music, too, I encourage you to purchase their albums. Supporting real artists is crucial in this time where AI generated music seems to be proliferating across platforms like Spotify YouTube.

URGH by Mandy, Indiana

This album is fucking awesome. It is probably my favorite one that I've listened to this year so far. The first song, Sevastopol, is such a great introduction to what the album is, but ultimately, my favorite track is Life Hex. Most of the lyrics in these tracks seem to be in French or a Slavic language I can't decipher; regardless, the singer is so aggressive with her delivery that I can't help but feel hyped up listening to this album.

Vision by Wulfsige

These people capture dungeon synth so well. I love this album in particular because it just feels so grand. This is the kind of music that I imagine would be playing during every boss battle during a classic edition campaign of D&D. It has a heroic element to it while also still making you feel like you're an adventurer exploring a dangerously trapped ancient ruin. Speaking of ruin, Wulfsige recently released a new album called Beautiful Ruin!

Flower of Life by System 7

Techno is my life blood. The Alive 2007 remixes from Daft Punk introduced me to this genre, along with dub-step and house music. I have never actually been to a rave or anything like that, but that doesn't mean I can't imagine myself in a club while listening to this type of music. When I listen to a track from Alive 2007, I try to imagine myself at that legendary concert at Coachella where Daft Punk mixed the album live. Any techno music that gives me that same feeling of being in a place pulsating with the beat, lights flashing everywhere, throngs of people pumping their fists, is good techno to me. Flower of Life does exactly that.

Tragic Magic by Mary Lattimore & Julianna Barwick

I think this album fits nicely into the same genre Beach House lies: dream pop. The soft lyrics combined with the electronic motif is perfect for slowly descending into a state of relaxation. My two favorite tracks from this album are Stardust and Melted Moon. I can't decide between these because Stardust is simply ethereal, while Melted Moon has downright beautiful lyrics. This is just an incredible album, and I can't wait to see what these two artists might make next.

Traditional Synthesizer Music (10th Anniversary Edition) by Venetian Snares

Not exactly techno, not really synthwave, but almost certainly electronic, after all, "traditional" is in the title. I love how long this album is, and it is all just electric signals beaming directly into your brain. It is lovely; great music for programming.

deep, jewel-toned tile by Brickmason

This is some pretty good vaporwave. I especially like how the title of each track appears to be a tile product you could find at Home Depot. It's these kinds of strange, niche conventions that draw me into new artists and genres I would never consider; though vaporwave is not really a new genre for me. IDK I just think this album is cool!
